Fratt House is in St Catharines (30 Ontario Street) and every Saturday
night is an event they call the Vampire Ball. There's a $2 cover and $2 shots
all night. Before 11pm pretty much all mixed drinks are also only $2 also. Some
shots are given new names such as my favourite the Nipple Clamp (black sambucca
and Bailey's) as well as the Vampire's Kiss (black sambucca and cherry whiskey)
and many others. It usually gets busy around 11:30-midnight, filled with some
of the most unusual and friendly people. The DJ (Rev Fester) plays a good mix.
Usually some essentials are Covenant, Bigod 20, Sisters, Bauhaus, Gary Numan,
Placebo, Pop Will Eat Itself, Slipknot, Manson, NIN, The Normal, David Bowie,
Switchblade Symphony, Siouxsie and the Cure. He usually also does a bit of punk
around 1am for those who enjoy that. The place is fairly large with artwork
painted on the windows, columns, chandaliers, plenty of seating and a
nice-sized dance floor backed by mirrors. There are also fans, a fog machine
very low lighting and red spotlights. It has been repainted mostly in
stone-look and deep red. Some of the local bands play there including (again,
my favourites) Bound (sound somewhat like NIN) who were playing last night, and
MDM playing there with Klobb this coming Wednesday. MDM are more industrial and
already have 2 CDs out. The building is hard to miss as it is a huge white
building used as housing for the students of Brock University.
