The following is an excerpt from an email
we received from Lance, the owner of the former Sanctuary Vampire Sex Bar.
With a great deal of pondering and wondering after a near-fatal parachute
accident this summer, I have decided to retire the Sanctuary ( for the time
being). I will be opening a new bar with a new partner, John, and will be
re-naming the bar.
(Do not lament the passing of Sanctuary though as I do plan to open a
Sanctuary again at some point in time though it will be a very heavy fetish
bar like nothing this city has ever seen.)
In the meantime though we will be having two different celebrations at our
new location in October.
On Saturday October 28th we will be hosting part #1 of a Sanctuary
Hallowe'en Party Reunion featuring DJ Chris-10 and DJ Clockwork spinning
tunes. We will also be open for another Hallowe'en party part#2 on October
31 with the same DJ's.
The new bar, which is located at 1032 Queen St West, is about the size of
the old Sanctuary upstairs but it has a huge stage that we will be
featuring great live bands from time to time. Bringing John in as a
partner was done to revitalize the bar and offer the live venue as a way of
keeping things fresh in the music scene in Toronto.
We wanted to have our grand opening on Hallowe'en but decided that it was
not enough time to get the place to really look the way that we wanted it
to - so please do not be alarmed at the way that it might look when you
come by for these Hallowe'en parties. You will see that we have only done
minimal work and hopefully you will see the potential that we see in the
space.
We will have a downstairs open some time in the new year and will be
spending much of the time between now and the new year refurbishing and
redesigning the bar so that it will be one of the most beautiful,
cutting-edge industrial and gothic bars in North America.
Some things will change from the old bar, some for the better, like the
bathrooms and some that may make people upset. There will be a 19+ rule in
effect meaning that no minors will be allowed in the bar. I am sorry, but
there is no space like the Catacombs at this new location, and honestly, we
were sick and tired of Sanctuary being thought of as a minor bar. We will
not be charging a cover for the parties and will not be charging a cover
for regular nights as well, just as before. That is right, NO COVER
CHARGE!!
1032 Queen St West was an old theatre that has a kick-ass stage as well as
fantastic lighting and sound booths. We installed the sound and lighting
several weeks ago to check on the acoustics and when we fired it all up I
was blown away. It is far better than what we had at our old location.
I am not going to be releasing the new name of the bar until we have our
grand opening but we will be open to serve from time to time during the
renovations to let you all have a peek at what we know will be your
favourite bar all over again.
